This undergraduate thesis examines the role of artificial intelligence in cybersecurity, focusing on its potential to detect, interpret, and respond to increasingly dynamic digital threats.

The research introduces key concepts in information security and machine learning, then considers how AI-based methods are used across threat detection, network monitoring, behavioural analysis, and automated response. It also addresses the dual nature of these technologies: the same adaptive tools that strengthen defensive systems can be adopted by malicious actors to develop more effective attacks.

The study concludes with a case study on Vectra, examining the application of AI to network detection and response. Developed within a Computer Engineering degree, the thesis reflects an early interest in the behaviour of complex systems and in technologies that learn from changing conditions.
